Lash Care 101

Lash Care 101

Application gets the spotlight, but daily care decides whether your set stays even, comfortable, and photograph-ready through week two and beyond. MERCI kits use a Bond + Seal ritual designed for at-home cluster wear—gentle when directions are followed, unforgiving when oils or friction sneak into the routine.

This guide is framework-first: adapt intensity to your lifestyle (desk job vs. hot yoga vs. heavy eye makeup), but keep the non-negotiables consistent.

The non-negotiables

  1. Oil-free everything near the bond line — Cleansers, makeup removers, face oils, rich creams, and some SPF blends can migrate and soften bond over time.
  2. Press, don’t scrub — Pat lids dry; rotate towels so you are not dragging lint through fibers.
  3. Hands off — Twisting clusters while bored at a keyboard is the silent killer of outer-corner lift (Night Out wearers, take note).

Daily cleanse (two speeds)

Light day / minimal makeup

  • Splash with lukewarm water or oil-free micellar on a pad; press along the lash line without upward friction through clusters.
  • Pat dry; optionally cool-air dry if you use a blow dryer (keep heat away from bond line).

Full face / liner / shadow fallout

  • Remove face makeup first, then eyes last with an oil-free eye makeup remover.
  • Work from the brow down so remover does not pool along the DIY lash base more than necessary.
  • Finish with a fresh pad barely damp with water to chase remover residue.

If you wear SPF daily (you should), choose formulas labeled compatible with eye area where possible, and apply creams below the orbital bone first—then blend upward carefully so heavy product does not flood the lash line.

Sleep, friction, and mornings

  • Back sleeping minimizes shear on outer corners; side sleepers often see faster lift on the “pillow side.”
  • Silk or satin pillowcases reduce catch-and-pull compared to coarse cotton.
  • For dramatic outer-corner maps, a soft lash guard or loose braid away from the face can help if you are recovering symmetry after a long night.

Morning puffiness is normal—don’t press clusters flat while swollen; cleanse gently once lids calm.

Showers, steam, and workouts

  • Hot showers and steam rooms shorten open-air cure perception for some wearers—cap humidity exposure early after a fresh application when possible.
  • Sweat itself is mostly salt and water; salt sting plus rubbing is the issue. Blot; avoid wiping temples diagonally across eyes.

Brushing and styling

  • If fibers tangle at tips, use a clean, dry spoolie with upward lifts—not downward rakes through the bond line.
  • Avoid waterproof mascara on bonded clusters; removal chemistry is rarely bond-friendly.

Shedding: what is normal

Clusters shed with your natural lash turnover and mechanical wear. Expect:

  • Tiny gaps appearing unevenly after week one—normal if bond lines still feel secure.
  • Sudden loss of one segment often traces to oil, twist trauma, or missed seal on that segment—not “bad lashes.”

Track which eye and which zone lifts first; it teaches your personal adjustment pattern (liner habits, sleep side, cleanser).

Refill vs. full redo

Refill-friendly moments

  • Map still pleasing; a few gaps or shorter zones after gentle shedding.
  • Bond lines intact without thick residue buildup.

Full redo signals

  • Heavy residue, uneven stickiness, or repeated lifts despite clean technique.
  • You switched cleansers or skincare and integrity dropped cluster-wide.

Refill cartridges exist so you can refresh density without forcing fibers onto compromised bond lines.

When to pause

Stop wearing extensions DIY and consult a professional if you experience persistent redness, swelling, burning, or vision changes—or if your clinician has advised against adhesives. Patch testing exists for a reason; honor your skin.

Care is not glamour-killing discipline—it is how soft styles stay soft and bold styles stay intentional. Build two or three habits into autopilot (oil-free cleanse, pat dry, hands off), and your Bond + Seal system gets room to do its job.
